Sonja Bella is a fine artist who lives on the Central Coast of NSW. She is most interested in capturing the essence of the natural world, especially the unique colours and energy of the ocean where she resides. Depicting the unseen elements of the natural environment and showcasing its beauty is her primary focus.

After 20 years as a graphic designer, in 2023, Sonja made the leap to becoming a full-time artist. By working in a variety of techniques, both drawing and painting, along with multiple mediums, including ink, watercolour and acrylic paint, Sonja creates excitement and fluidity in her work; crisp lines, subtle washes, bright colours and bold shapes intermingle and move across large pieces of paper and canvas. The unseen beauty in nature highlights the fragility of the environment. Sonja’s artworks appeal to the allure of beauty and are a reminder of the joy that nature offers for our well being. Her artworks serve as a reminder to enjoy the essence and love the environment we live in.

Sonja believes in giving back to the art community by sharing her skills, techniques and observations via her YouTube channel. Still in its early days, this new commitment establishes her position in creating an inclusive art community and starting conversations about the positive outcomes that creating art brings into our lives, with a particular focus on mental health.

A member of the Central Coast Creatives Collective, in February 2024 Sonja participated in the Central Coast Creative Spaces program. She shared the gallery space in Toukley with fine artist Sahra Bull for a two-week exhibition which included the creation of a community mural project.
